FAQ

Questions ranchers ask

Don't see yours? Email hello@greenbowlabs.com. A person answers.

Can I use RanchPilot now?

Not yet. RanchPilot is in development and is being run on a working cattle ranch first. Early access will open to a small group of ranchers. Email hello@greenbowlabs.com with what you run and where, and we'll be in touch.

Does it really work with no cell signal?

Yes. RanchPilot keeps your herd on your phone, so you can look up any animal and record weights, shots, preg checks, calvings and moves with zero bars. Each entry shows a "saved" mark. When you're back in range it syncs on its own, and two people working offline won't overwrite each other.

What animals does it handle?

Eighteen species today: cattle, bison, water buffalo, sheep, goats, pigs, horses, donkeys, alpacas, llamas, deer, elk, camels, rabbits, chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese, plus a custom species for anything else. Laying flocks, feeder lots and litters can be kept as one group instead of one record per animal.

It was built cattle-first on a cow-calf ranch, and the other species keep growing.

What do I need to run it?

A phone, tablet or computer with a web browser. On your phone you add it to the home screen and it opens like any other app, even in a dead zone. No app store needed.

Can I bring my records from the app I use now?

Yes. We'll bring your records over from the herd app you use now, with their history and money, plus field outlines from your grazing app. You'll see a dry run and check it before anything is saved. For now Greenbow Labs does this for each ranch, so just ask.

Who owns my records?

You do. You can export everything any time in open formats (CSV and JSON), and every entry keeps a history of who made it and when.

Does it give veterinary advice?

No. RanchPilot keeps your health records, the label withdrawal times you enter and your reminders. Its calving watch reminds you which cows to keep an eye on, and the down-cow card puts your vet one tap away. It doesn't diagnose anything or recommend treatments. That's your vet's job.

Can my hands use it without seeing the money?

Yes. Each person gets a role: owner, manager, hand or view-only. Hands record the cattle work and never see dollar amounts. View-only fits a banker, an accountant or a vet.

Does it work outside the US?

It's built for ranches anywhere. Each ranch sets its country, pounds or kilograms, acres or hectares, its currency and its grazing unit. Each person picks their own language, and more languages are on the way.

What will it cost?

Pricing isn't set yet. Early-access ranchers will hear first. RanchPilot is built to be one app instead of the three or four many ranches pay for today.

Who makes RanchPilot?

Greenbow Labs, a small software company. RanchPilot is built and tested on a working cattle ranch in Alabama by a rancher who got tired of herd apps that stalled or got left behind. See more at greenbowlabs.com.
